The Next Big Thing is Kahn

The White House Correspondents Dinner was last night, and it always brings together a diverse group of people. The fashion is usually tame, but this year one designer stood out.

Naeem Khan is an Indian born fashion designer, most famously worn by Michelle Obama. Last night she wasn't the only one to wear one of his beautiful designs:

"Wicked Brit Designers, Dahling" (Awesome British Designers for all you Fashionistas)

With the Royal Wedding Anniversary and London Olympic Games approaching, it's put us in the mood for British fashion. With our tutorial, you'll be on your way to the Fash Pack (a slave to fashion).

Stella McCartney
The daughter of Paul McCartney, her signature style is described as sharp, confident, and feminine. She is a vegetarian, and has a strict no fur/leather policy for her designs. She has recently gained notoriety for her wedding dresses.
Stars Who Love McCartney
Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Kate Moss, Madonna

Alexander McQueen
The fashion house was started by designer Alexander McQueen. After his death in 2010, it was taken over by Sarah Burton. The label is best known for it's well tailored, incredibly detailed, and often controversial designs.

Ted Baker
Ted Baker started in men's dress shirts. After a successful word of mouth campaign, the brand has expanded to women's and children's clothing as well as a very successful accessory line. The handbags are the most fun, classic looks with a twist.

Top Shop
Although it's more a store than designer, they are having enormous success in England. Calling itself a "high street brand", it brings popular styles from the streets of London to the world.

Issa
Issa is a Ready to Wear line founded by Brazilian born Daniella Issa Helayel. The label primarily focuses on silk jersey dresses. "It's all about versaltility," says the designer. The same dress can be worn to the beach, office, or red carpet. In 2010, Issa gained worldwide notoriety when Kate Middleton wore a dress while announcing her engagement to Prince William.
The Duchess of Cambridge
Jenny Packham
The Ready to Wear designer specializes in red carpet dresses and bridal wear. She helped style Kim Catrall in Sex and the City, and designed for two James Bond movies. Her dresses are frequently seen on Kate Middleton and all over the red carpet during awards season. More notably, she designed the dress worn by Emma Watson in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -Part 1.

What a difference a stylist can make...

We recently came across a great article from Stylelist.com that shows celebrities looking less than stylish. Clearly these were the days before everyone had a personal stylist. It just goes to show that celebrities only look good after lots and lots of prep.

Stars Before They Were Stylish

Food for Thought

A great quote from fashion icon Coco Chanel:
The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.

Why Buy Vintage?

Buying vintage pieces has been a popular pastime for fashionistas for quite some time. Recently, more frugal shoppers have been turned on to the trend and they're more popular than ever. However, it can take some time to find that perfect piece.
So is it worth the time?  ABSOLUTELY!

  • Vintage clothing and accessories are one of a kind pieces. You will never have to worry about someone else wearing the same thing as you.
  • Vintage is classic, it will never go out of style.
  • The BEST way to afford designer labels.
My favorite vintage finds are CHANEL. Here are some great pieces available at Lilise Designer Resale.

"Fashion Star" Gives Insight into Fashion Industry

If you've ever wondered how the fashion industry works, NBC's Fashion Star is a great place to start. This reality show focuses on fashion design and buyers. It is hosted by model Elle Macpherson, and the judges include Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos, and Nicole Richie.
Each week, the designers make a new garment and present it to the judges and buyers from Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, and H&M. The judges decide who will be eliminated, and the buyers bid on the pieces they want.
It is a fresh take on the reality competition template, and fun to watch. Fashion Star airs on NBC on Tuesdays at 10/9c.

Simply Chic Nail Shields

Nail trends used to be as simple as painting them with the season's hottest colors. Thanks to new technology, nail shields are the new nail polish. We are the midst of a "nail revolution" with companies like Jamberry Nail Shields leading the way.

Here are some of my favorite designs:

Black Floral
Spring Flower
Exotic Paisley
Grey & White Polka
